Five Tips for Safer Road Trips

A road trip can be an opportunity to get away from the everyday grind and experience something completely new. You will have more fun and better stories to tell once you get home again if you are properly prepared before you leave.

1. Service Your Car Before You Leave

Take the time to have your oil changed and your fluids checked before you leave. If possible, have the mechanics look at your tires and all of the car’s belts and hoses as well. Any problem that can be taken care of before you are on the road will save you time and trouble on your trip.

2. Pack the Right Gear

Ever car should carry a gallon of Spare Fuel. This special formula is not flammable, so it’s safe to keep in the trunk no matter what the temperature outside. It provides you with the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline if you run out  in the middle of nowhere. Other important safety items to include are a first aid kit, blankets, and some extra water.

3. Designate a Daily Contact Back Home

Choose a person to be your daily contact while you are on the road. Make sure you always call this person at least once a day with an update on your progress while you drive. Let all of your family and friends know who you will be talking to daily so they can keep track of you on your trip.

4. Carry the Appropriate Chargers

Always have a charger with you so that you can keep your cell phone battery charged at all times. If possible, purchase a charger that will work in your car. Keep a wall charger for your cell phone as well so that you can charge it overnight when you stop in a hotel.

5. Maintain a Positive Attitude

The most important thing you can take with you on a road trip is a positive attitude. Approach every obstacle as a part of the overall adventure. Most road trips deviate from the expected plan at least once along the way. It is up to you whether you choose to make those unexpected stops interesting parts of the story of your trip or annoying inconveniences that will cast a cloud over the entire experience. Try to remember that a road trip is a fun excursion that you don’t get to experience very often.
